Introduction to PTC Nanveej – Daund

Police Training Centre Nanveej is one of the 10 Police centres of Maharashtra Police established for providing 9 Months basic training for newly recruited constables from various units of Maharashtra police.

Institute is established on 1st May 1990. Coincidently 1st batch of the trainees was predominantly of constables of  Nashik police, specially recruited for Sinhasta Kumbh Mela of 1991. Since then 40 batches, comprising 19835 constables from various units of Maharashtra police are passed out.

These days, 41st batch of 157 recruits from various 29 units of  Maharashtra police is in session. It is likely to be passed out in the month of October 2021.

Institute is situated on the bank  of  river Bhima. Prior to the establishment of institute, place was famous for huge wireless station installed by British Rulers. It was part of  imperial wireless chain, strategic international communications network of powerful long range radiotelegraphy station created to link colonies of British Empire. It was the only station of it’s type in India with technical competence to communicate from Canada to Australia. After independence of India, machinery & segments of  tower are shifted to various nearby units of Indian Army. Huge concrete blocks once served as base of tower tells the story of size & height of tower having capability to send wireless massages to intercontinental distances. That wireless station is not only the part of history of the place but even now it is integral part of social life. e.g. Segment of the road coming towards the place is still called as wireless phata (Junction of the road).

Place is located at 18º47’896” N 74º53’238” E, 514 Meters above sea level on the western margin of Deccan plateau. It is situated about 80 kms east of Sahyadri mountain ranges. The climate is generally hot & dry, temperature rises up to 41ºC in the month of May & drops to minimum up to 14ºC in January. This area receives average annual rain fall of 450 mm, mainly in months from June to September. 

Institute is well connected to the outside world by road as well as railway network. Pune-Hyderabad (NH-9) national highway passes 10 Kms. From the place. Patas is the nearest place on highway is connected to institute by all seasons black top road. Similarly Daund is nearest railway station on Mumbai-Chennai route, is 9 Kms. from the institute. Daund being major railway junction all trains enroute has a halt.  Even adjoining district places like Pune, Solapur & Ahmednagar are also having excellent road connectivity from the institute.

Despite of poor rainfall lust green farms of sugarcane catches the eyesite. It is because of extensive network of canals of  Khadakwasala group of Dams & close vicinity of Bhima river. area is one of the major pockets of sugarcane crop in Maharashtra. Even these days, this area is developing as major hub for thousands of  Jaggery manufacturing small scale industries.
